Controlling Subterranean Termites
Sentricon Colony Elimination System
Sentricon Installation:
- The best location for monitoring sites is determined.
- Bait stations are inserted flush with the ground every 7’ to 10’ around the perimeter of the structure.
- After installation, stations are scanned and uploaded to our computer system for future monitoring.
- In areas of current infestation, liquid termicides may be used for immediate control.
Sentricon Baiting:
- When enough termites are found in the monitoring stations, they are transferred to a bait tube and re-inserted into the station.
- Termites then take the bait back to the nest, while also releasing pheromones which encourage other termites to feed on the bait.
Sentricon Monitoring:
- Stations are checked for termite activity approximately every sixty days.
- Each station is opened and thoroughly examined for evidence of termite activity.
- If no activity is found, we enter the data into our system with a scanner.
- If termites are found, we then introduce the baiting device.
Bait, Monitor & Eliminate:
- Bait placement is continued until no more termites are found in the bait tubes and colony elimination has been achieved.
- The stations are then re-armed with the monitoring devices to catch any new termites that may begin foraging around the structure.
Advantages
- Complete colony elimination.
- Long-term protection with built-in monitoring for new activity.
- Not necessary to drill through floor coverings.
- Has won the EPA Green Chemistry Award. Bait is only added if needed.
Disadvantages
- Colonies are not immediately eliminated.
- In some areas of the exterior perimeter, 3” holes may need to be cored in the concrete. Holes are covered with a cap.
Termidor Termite Defense
Nothing gets rid of subterranean termites quicker than Termidor. It’s America’s #1 termite defense with over 2 million homes treated since 2000, proven to be effective in the most challenging situations, climates and environments.
Made from a revolutionary new technology, termites can’t see, smell, taste or avoid Termidor. Instead they contact, ingest, and share it with their nestmates. It’s superior to older liquid termite controls, which rely on repellent barriers that termites can too easily avoid.
The Termidor Process
If there’s a concrete slab around the structure, holes are drilled approximately every twelve inches around the perimeter and Termidor is injected into the soil under the slab. Later, the holes are expertly patched. If there is soil, a trench approximately six inches deep is dug along the foundation. The trench is then filled with Termidor and allowed to absorb into soil for several minutes. The trench is then completely refilled with soil.
Advantages
- Begins to work immediately wherever applied.
- Non-repellent. Less likely termites will avoid it.
- Slow acting. Allows more termites to come in contact with it as they pass through the chemical barrier.
Disadvantages
- Small holes may need to be drilled through slabs and floor coverings.
- Plants may be damaged where trenching is required.
- Although very effective, it has not been proven to eliminate an entire colony.
